BetaFPV ArtLynk V2 Firmware: What Got Fixed, What Didn't, and Whether It's Now Worth Buying

BetaFPV shipped V2.0 firmware for the P1 Air Unit and VR04 goggles. The reconnect bug is fixed. Cross-compatibility with HGLRC Draco and other Artosyn systems is added. Image quality and latency remain the same. Here's the full picture.

What the V2 Firmware Actually Fixed

✅ The Reconnect Bug - Confirmed Fixed

The original ArtLynk had a documented issue: after a crash where the drone flew far enough to lose video signal, the feed would sometimes not reconnect when you walked back into range. The only fix was to power-cycle the drone. This was frustrating in practice and well-documented in community reviews.

The root cause was identified as VTX overheating - the system wouldn't attempt reconnection after thermal protection kicked in. BetaFPV's V2 firmware addresses this. Oscar Liang, who reviewed the original ArtLynk and identified the bug, confirmed the fix in his May 2026 update: the reconnect issue was resolved in V2.

📝 Transparency note: Oscar Liang's review update states the reconnect bug is fixed in V2 firmware. He also confirmed: "to be honest I haven't noticed anything changed in terms of image quality or latency" compared to V1. This is a bug fix release, not a performance upgrade.

🔗 Cross-Compatibility with Other Artosyn Systems - The Bigger Deal

V2 firmware opens ArtLynk to cross-compatibility with other Artosyn-based systems from different brands - specifically HGLRC Draco and STARTRC VT5. This means: BetaFPV VR04 goggles can receive video from HGLRC Draco VTX units, and vice versa.

This matters because it breaks the brand lock-in. You can now build a multi-quad fleet where some quads run ArtLynk VTX and others run Draco VTX, all viewed through one pair of goggles. For pilots who want budget HD on more than one build, this reduces total system cost.

What Didn't Change

Image quality and latency are unchanged from V1. The Artosyn chipset provides approximately 60ms glass-to-glass latency and 1080p video quality that is clearly superior to analog but below DJI O4's ceiling. This is expected - firmware updates on a fixed hardware platform can optimize behavior but can't change the physics of the RF link or the camera sensor capability.

⚠️ Honest benchmark: At the same price tier as an ArtLynk setup, you're getting better video than analog. At the DJI O4 Pro price tier, you're getting better video than ArtLynk. The Artosyn systems fill a genuine middle ground - they're not DJI replacements.

The Artosyn Ecosystem: Where It's Going

  • Dec 2025
    BetaFPV ArtLynk V1 launch
P1 Air Unit + VR04 goggles. Reconnect bug present. Cross-compatibility: BetaFPV only.
  • Apr 2026
    ArtLynk V2 firmware + cross-compatibility announcement
Reconnect bug fixed. HGLRC Draco and STARTRC VT5 cross-compatible. Oscar Liang confirms fix.
  • 2026 ongoing
    HGLRC Draco receives ArtLynk firmware
HGLRC confirmed Draco will run ArtLynk firmware, with promises of 15km range and 1/1.8" sensor option.

The Artosyn ecosystem is consolidating around a shared firmware standard (KAP/ArtLynk), which means more hardware options and potentially better long-term support than a single-brand system. Caddx Ascent uses the same Artosyn chipset but is doing their own firmware - it remains separate and currently trails the others in community reviews.

Is ArtLynk Worth Buying Now?

For pilots entering HD digital FPV on a tight budget: yes. The V2 firmware removed the main reliability concern. Cross-compatibility means your goggle investment is less locked-in. The image quality is genuinely better than analog and the price is significantly below DJI.

For pilots already on DJI O4 or Walksnail: no reason to switch. ArtLynk doesn't match either system's image quality, range, or ecosystem maturity. It serves a different price point.
