DJI Avata 360 vs Antigravity A1: DJI Just Entered the 360° FPV Market and It's a Different Category Entirely

DJI launched the Avata 360 on March 26, 2026. Two 180° fisheye lenses, real-time head tracking, acro mode. This isn't an Avata 3 - it's a new product category. Here's what it actually means for FPV pilots.

What the DJI Avata 360 Actually Is

The Avata 360 is not the Avata 3. DJI built a new product from the ground up: a cinewhoop-class drone with two integrated 180° fisheye lenses - one facing up, one facing down - that stitch into a full 360° sphere in real time. The drone body is automatically removed from footage through software processing.

The headline feature is real-time head tracking in DJI goggles. When you look left, you see left. When you look straight up or straight down, you see straight up or straight down - while the drone continues flying in whatever direction you've set. The aircraft doesn't need to rotate for you to look around.

📡 Verified: The DJI Avata 360 passed FCC approval before its March 26 launch. Oscar Liang published a hands-on comparison with the Antigravity A1 on March 17, 2026, based on pre-launch access. These are confirmed product details, not speculation.

Two Modes That Make It Versatile

📷 Single-Lens Mode

One camera faces forward like a traditional FPV drone. Standard framing, maximum image clarity, compatible with screen-based flying without goggles. Behaves like an Avata 2 in this mode.

🌐 Full 360° Mode

Both lenses active, one up and one down. Full sphere capture. Head tracking in goggles lets you look in any direction independently from flight direction. This is the mode that makes it a different product entirely.

The ability to switch between modes is where the Avata 360 gains over the Antigravity A1 - the A1 commits to 360° as its only shooting mode.

DJI Avata 360 vs Antigravity A1: Honest Comparison

Why This Is a Different Category, Not a Better Avata

The Avata 2 is a freestyle/cinematic FPV drone. The Avata 360 is a 360° content capture platform that can also fly in FPV. These are different tools for different purposes, and comparing them directly misses the point.

For a freestyle pilot who wants the best footage of their own flying - the Avata 2 or a custom 5-inch build with O4 Pro is still the right answer. The Avata 360 doesn't replace that workflow. What it does is enable a completely different kind of content: immersive POV experiences where the viewer can look around inside the footage, and single-pilot shoots that produce multiple camera angle outputs from one flight.

✅ The key practical advantage: In post-production, one flight with the Avata 360 can produce multiple different shots by reframing the 360° sphere. For solo creators this reduces the number of flights needed to get coverage of a scene.

What It Means for Traditional FPV Build Pilots

If you build your own quads, fly freestyle, and shoot with DJI O4 Pro or Walksnail - the Avata 360 is not competition for your setup. It's a specialized capture tool aimed at a different use case. The image quality ceiling for cinematic freestyle footage from a 5-inch custom build with O4 Pro hardware remains higher than what an integrated 360° system can deliver.

What the Avata 360's existence does confirm: DJI is actively developing new FPV-adjacent product categories rather than just iterating on existing ones. The next Avata product isn't necessarily going to be Avata 3 - it might be something else entirely.
